My name is Army MSG Eric Marts, and I am a 2017 HFOT Veteran Home Recipient. My home in Moorhead, MN has truly opened many doors for me, my wife, Bobbie, and our entire family.
During the process of my home build, our local community came together, gathered around my family, and showed their support to us, their soon-to-be-neighbors. We felt blessed to have such tremendous support.
Today, Bobbie and I are paying it forward and asking you to join us in helping future home recipient, Army SPC Lucas Schmitz with his build in Perham, MN. On July 25, 2006, Specialist Schmitz was on a patrol in Iraq when he stepped on a secondary improvised explosive device (IED) after his vehicle was struck by an initial explosion. SPC Schmitz lost his right leg and sustained damage to his right hand in the blast. You can learn more about the Schmitz family here: hfotusa.org/building-homes/veterans/schmitz
As fellow Minnesotans, you can relate to the very cold winters and deep freezes we experience. Living in a “frozen tundra” can cause us all to turn our heat up to stay comfortable. Well today, we are asking for your help in funding radiant heating in the Schmitz home. This will help keep the winter temperatures outside at bay and comfortable inside.
Bobbie and I want to encourage you to join forces with us to heat the Schmitz family home. I reflect back many times to my recovery in reintegration training, a Vietnam Veteran visited my group with an injured bald eagle. The bird had a broken wing and head injury after being hit by a car. I strained as hard as he could to see the bird, to whom I could relate deeply – once so strong and powerful it could soar across the country, now no longer could. Unable to catch a glimpse of the eagle, I became emotional. As I stood to get my picture taken, the bird popped his head up, looked at me and stretched out its healthy wing, wrapping it around my shoulder. This is how I feel about American people and organizations like Homes For Our Troops, as they have taken me under their wing and are doing the same for the Schmitz family.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
Eric and Bobbie

Eric thanks for getting this going.
I've been fortunate to see first-hand through Eric and Bobbie how this fantastic organization really does changes the lives of veterans who've made great sacrifices in serving our country and defending our freedom. I hope it does the same for the Schmitz family!
