Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post – 9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives. Most of these Veterans have sustained injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). These homes restore some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives. Since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents out of every dollar has gone directly to our program services for Veterans. HFOT builds these homes where the Veteran chooses to live, and continues its relationship with the Veterans after home delivery to assist them with rebuilding their lives.

Joshua Sweeney is my inspiration, my motivation and most of hero. In this life, we are all granted with a purpose. Each person's journey is unique in its own right. Josh's story, is nothing less than honorable. Josh served with the United States Marine Corps from 2005-2010. I had the pleasure and the honor of serving alongside him from 2006 - 2008. In 2009, Sgt. Sweeney took one of the ultimate sacrifices in the heat of battle. The price of which cost him his legs. This is not what defines Sweeney. His story did not end that fateful day. He's gone on to win a gold medal with the US Paralympic Sled Team. He's won the Pat Tillman Award. He's received a Purple Heart. He's given back to this country in ways that we only wish or could never even begin to live up to. Even in my darkest days, when I think this life has gotten me down to my lowest points, the thought of his perseverance has pulled me through. My Brother in Arms. As of late, I have been thinking of ways I can give back to those that often come back to the US with a home that cannot accommodate them--due to injuries incurred laying it all on the line for our Freedom. Sgt. Sweeney received a home from Homes for our Troops. In September of 2019, I will be running the Chicago Marathon to benefit Homes for our Troops. I want to raise money, in the hope that our men/women who so graciously lay it all on the line are able to come back to a home that will help them rebuild. That will help them hopefully find the peace that they deserve. I understand that the holiday season is upon us...and I'm not asking for much. What I do ask, is that you find it in your heart to donate to my cause. Anything that you can give to these troops would be greatly appreciated.
