We are adventurers and expedition athletes with a desire to seek out the unknown and find a permanent place of residence outside of our comfort zone.
Mike Reid, Sigríður Ýr Unnarsdóttir and Chris Fabre are about to attempt the largest and most anticipated adventure of our lives. Breaking a Guinness World Record.
Beginning September 5th, we will seek to break the current Guinness World Record for the “Longest journey on a pocketbike” which was set by Ryan Galbraith and Chris Stinson on August 8th 2009.
The World Record will take us from Middletown, Ohio to Mescalero, New Mexico. The route is just over 1500 miles and will cross 9 states on what amounts to be the tricycle of the motorcycle world; a Honda CRF-50.
Besides raising funds for our adventure, we also want to raise funds for a cause that we believe in, which is housing for homeless and disabled veterans.
This issue is especially pressing to one of our expedition members, Mike, being that his father served in the Navy for 20 years. During the latter part of his tenure in the Armed Service he was injured and left the military with a honorable discharge as a disabled veteran. Because of the severity of his injury, he was often not able to maintain a job; however, one of the only reasons Mike Sr. was not homeless was because of his 20-year military retirement funds and the help of the Veterans Health Administration.
Many veterans are not lucky as Mike Sr. and due to various reasons ranging from severity of their injuries to difficulties adjusting back into society, they are not able to maintain meaningful work and therefore slip into and cycle of poverty and/or homelessness.
Beyond breaking a Guinness World Record, we also want to raise awareness of the fact that about 11% of the homeless population are veterans and need our support.
Please help support Homes for our Troops by donating to this fundraiser.
