ASHI Foundation Kickoff Campaign with Homes For Our Troops

James Thomas

InspectionWorld 2019

To kickoff the new initiative of the ASHI Foundation at InspectionWorld 2019 in San Diego, we are partnering with the wonderful folks at Homes For Our Troops. HFOT is a privately funded 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post – 9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives. Since 2004, HFOT has built over 270 specially adapted homes nationwide. Our goal is to build a home for every Veteran who qualifies for one of our specially adapted homes.

HFOT's mission of helping veterans rebuild their lives truly resonated with us, since the ASHI membership has a number of veterans in our ranks as well. Further, as home inspection professionals, we understand better than most just how important a home can be. We are grateful to work alongside to this organization to make such a powerful impact.

While HFOT works with many veterans around the country, our campaign is focused on one veteran in particular: SPC Joseph Paulk Jr. While serving a tour in 2007, Paulk was severely injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) that resulted in extensive burns and the loss of his fingers.

After his recovery, Paulk faces a new set of challenges in his day-to-day life from regulating his body temperature, to completing everyday tasks. To help with this, HFOT constructed a specially designed home fully fitted with advanced climate controls, as well as increased automation throughout the house. With these functions in place, the home has given Paulk increased independence and comfort.

Our goal with this campaign is to offer additional resources to aid Homes For Our Troops continue their support of Joseph Paulk Jr. and other veterans like him who have given so much to our country. At InspectionWorld 2019, we will have the honor of hosting Wally Fanene, a representative from HFOT to inform the attendees about the organization's efforts and how your donations will help the veterans rebuild their lives.

View the video posted below to see SPC Joseph Paulk Jr.'s full story as he explains his journey and how his new home will give him the opportunity to achieve his goal of opening a taproom in his community.
